The Crooked, Deschutes and
Metolius rivers merge to form the 3,906-acre Lake Billy Chinook, one of Central
Oregon's favorite summer playgrounds. Surrounded by mostly public lands, Lake Billy Chinook area provides
overnight camping, fishing, and many types of water-based
recreation. Physical characteristics of the reservoir
include 72 miles of shoreline and a surface area of 4000 acres. The
deepest portion of the lake is 400 feet at the Round
Butte Dam.
Fishing: Billy Chinook is recognized at one of the best lakes in the
northwest to fish for Bull Trout. Every year anglers await the first day of March in hope of catching trophy
bulls up to 15 pounds in the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook. The state record came out of Billy Chinook
reservoir in 1989, weighing 23 pounds, 2 ounces. In summer months, bass are favorite for anglers.

(year round): 91 electrical sites with water; three deluxe cabins nearby.
Deschutes Campground (May - Sept. 30): 82 full hookup sites; 92 tent
sites with water nearby (max. site 60 feet); three group tent areas.
